This Friday, September 24th -- Dr. Ken Duckworth, NAMI's Medical Director, will hold his Friday Conference Call on the topic of the FDA Pediatric
Psychopharmacology Advisory Committee's (PDAC) decision to recommend that the FDA require a "black box" warning for antidepressants prescribed to children
and adolescents.

The FDA has asked all manufacturers of atypical antipsychotic
medications to add a Warnings statement describing the increased risk
of hyperglycemia and diabetes in patients taking these medications
..using antidepressant medication to treat depression in a person who has
bipolar disorder may induce manic symptoms if it is taken without a mood
stabilizer. In addition, using stimulant medications to treat attention deficit
hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or ADHD-like symptoms in a child with bipolar
disorder may worsen manic symptoms.
